Secondary Drainage
Secondary drainage is an effective way of improving the performance of existing sports pitches where primary drainage alone is no longer sufficient. Over time, surface water can struggle to reach the primary drainage system quickly enough, resulting in slower drainage, softer playing conditions and reduced usability during periods of wet weather. Secondary drainage helps overcome these issues by creating additional pathways for water to move rapidly away from the surface and into the primary drainage network.
Premier Turfing has extensive experience in the installation of secondary drainage systems, including sand banding and gravel banding. Using specialist machinery, narrow trenches are accurately installed across the playing surface and connected directly into the existing primary drainage system. This significantly increases surface water infiltration, improves year-round playability and enhances the overall performance of the pitch, while minimising disruption to the existing playing surface.
